Healthy Plants make Happy People

The glorious sunshine of the last few days has seen many of us wishing we were at home, reaching for our sunglasses and the latest bestseller and heading out to the garden for a little bit of rest and relaxation.

But, what happens when the sun disappears, as it inevitably does in the UK? Do we all retreat back inside and sulk and mope about being stuck indoors or should we simply just bring the outside in?

For centuries, man has lived and worked amongst the natural world and many academics and scientists alike have stressed the importance of being close to nature but is the importance of bringing plants indoors being overlooked?

Common sense has shown us that being outside amongst nature does in fact improve our mood, with plants and flowers having the most positive impact and nowhere more so than when we are at work.

According to Daniel Foster, Director of Fosters Breathing Space, a leading office plants supplier, healthy office plants are the little ray of sunshine we all need during the working day.

“House and office plants are amazing things and have many hidden qualities that people overlook. Over the years we have found that the offices we work with are in general much happier, nicer places to work after the installation of planted office displays. The maintained office plant services we provide ensure that all your office plants are kept happy, healthy and blooming thus keeping employees happy too!”

Fosters Breathing Space is not alone in their opinion as many other plant enthusiasts have added to the growing amount of literature and academic research that proves the emotional benefits of healthy office plants.

A study conducted back in the 1980’s by Joan Aitken and Rodger Palmer from the University of Missouri showed that many of us have such a close affinity with our office plants that we worry when they become unhealthy.

A campaign to introduce more office plants to modern business premises should then have a hugely beneficial impact on the millions of desk bound office workers across the UK.

Daniel Foster continued;

“Although there has been an increase in the number of companies incorporating office plants into the work environment there are still many who are not realising the potential healthy plants have on employees, after all happier employees surely means happier profits!”

It appears then, that businesses can be confident that the introduction of office plants can go a long way to keeping employees happy.
